hiccups : retro robots and Lachie!

the chubby bubba....

retro robots bed linen....

Here is our little boy Lachie, featured today on the Hiccups blog. I went in and visited everyone on Tuesday for Natalie's birthday, she is the very talented textile designer behind the Hiccups brand for kids
We went up to the Hiccups showroom and plonked Lachie on the bed for his first taste at modeling - pity he had his serious face on though! Maybe he needed some of the chocolate cake to lighten him up a bit!

I am ordering the new Robots design for Lucas' room, it is such a fun collection. I will post a photo of his colourful room when finished. I wish I had a little girl so I could have the flannelette - Hoopla Circus design too.
Mmmmm............ maybe I could get it made in king for my own room!

one off the bookshelf......

I think as a kid you can never have too many books - but in Lucas' case, he has so many, he forgets (and us also) what a great selection he does have.
So tonight I cleaned up his bookshelves to make it more appealing for him to pick a newey
You see every night we tell him to go choose 2 books to read before bed, and 9 times out of 10 he will pick the same pop up truck books. I know kids love repetition but this drives us bonkers. When he does finally choose a different one, its always a long story, right when I want to watch my favorite tv shows (this will be on a Tuesday night or during Farmer wants a wife!).

When I was sorting through them all, I came across all of these lovelies that I have decided to move to my own workroom shelves now - just to keep them safe of course!

This is one of my favorite books -  'Penguin dreams' by Vivian Walsh and illustrated by J.otto Seibold.  It is such a gorgeous book - with lovely kooky pictures that will keep the kids mesmerized for ages; for there is so much happening on each page.
I brought mine at a bookshop near me, but you can buy yours here.

a few more pics from the festival....

Here is a few more pics from the Yarraville festival on Saturday.
I tried something new, and hung the tops on a little clothes line I whipped up, it was a great way to show off the appliques, embroideries etc on the kaftans.

I love all the colours in the fabrics.....mmmmmm I think I might go and eat some ice-cream with 100's and 1000's now!

yarraville festival

Our stand
My favorite pants...
Filly butterfly, Gone fishin' and 'bird dance' necklaces

On Saturday we had a stand at the Yarraville festival. I didn't even know they had a festival until it was recommended to me the week before at the Sisters market.
The weather wasn't as crazy as that day either - thank goodness, but it still was a tropical 30 degrees or so.
There were hundreds of people there, and kids galore. I have never seen so many pregnant women either....there is a definite baby boom on that side of town!

I do like being at the markets, it's great fun to look around at the other stalls and - shop!
My sister came and helped me again which was good. She is such a crack up to work with too, as she spends all her money in the first five mins of arriving, then tries to justify her purchases for the rest of the day!!

We had an awesome response to the collection which was great - we even ran out of business cards and bags!

Thanks to everyone who came and visited us, and thanks to the pharmacy we were in front of who allowed me to plug in my expressing machine, crouch down behind the counter, and pump away a few times throughout the day. I'm sure I was a sight to see.

We will definitely try again next year - it was well worth the drive.

I'm found.....

It was very exciting to be found! I took part in the toy drop for The toy society 2 weeks ago in Hastings, and a lovely lady and her young daughter found it. Then even nicer to meet them in person a week later at swimming - she recognised Lucas from the blog pictures!

I'm really glad it went to a good home and was appreciated by a little person.
I am definitely going to do it again, I will make one for the bushfire toy drop appeal first, then do a sneaky weaky one to deliver around this neck of the woods......

oh so sad...

Victoria is witnessing one of the worst bush fires in our nations history.
I can't stop watching the news, the damage it has done is overwhelming.
I just heard 131 confirmed dead, and over 750 homes lost. Some people escaped with only the clothes on their back - one lady had even lost her shoes from her feet and her false teeth - she can't remember how she lost them!
Poor Brian Naylor (from Channel nine) died along side his wife in their home in Kinglake. I remember him from the news growing up and the old ditty - "Brian told me, Brian told me, Brian told me so - I know everything I need to know... cause Brian told me so".

I can't even think what it would be like being in such a fierce fire, I have a phobia of fire and heat as it is.... so it makes me sick to even imagine.

There are several ways we can help -  cash donations, seems to be what they are recommending the most. There isn't enough room to store the clothing and food donations.... so money it is.

damn hot!

Thank you to everyone who came and visited us yesterday at the Sisters' market in Brunswick -not to mention bearing the very hot conditions!

It was great to meet everyone, we had a great response to the range. I am surprised at the amount of people that still came out and shopped though, while it reached 46 degrees outside.
At least we had aircon....... until it was pack up time - I have never experienced anything like that heat.
The sky was a very eeeery, but calming colour of mauvey/grey (if that makes any sense). I remember the same look in the sky when I was younger in primary school - it was the Ash Wednesday bush fires.

toy drop

The bootie.
The scene......
The park...

We took part in a lovely project on Monday by The Toy Society. All you have to do is make a toy.......leave it somewhere......then someone will find it- and it will hopefully make their day!

Our drop was made at Pelican park in Hastings, just before running off to swimming lessons.
It was great fun to do, and so exciting to come out after swimming to find it had been picked up.
Now we just have to hope the person emails in to say they have found it, and are giving it a good home.
Check out their website to see other drops made around the world - and maybe have a go yourself. You don't have to be a fancy toy maker, just have the heart to do it!

little miss sissy

A few more days left until the market on Saturday. I'm busy running around like a crazy woman - still building the website store to (hopefully) be up and running in a few days. Woo hooo!!!

Until then here is one of my fav's from the range - the 'little miss sissy'.
It's a cute cotton top for girls, with a crocheted flower tie, and pretty candy pink embroidery border.
